Frozen Pipes

 

Pipes are very important part of our world. These pipes allow us to extract and procure good and bad fluids that may or may not be essential. However, every now and then pipes seem to either get clogged, dirty, or damaged, which are some reasons why plumbing and water systems stop working.

As said before, pipes tend to freeze around colder months because of the colder weather. This is a very normal thing for all home owners, so if this ever happens to you, don’t be scared or worried! Frozen pipes are actually very easy to prevent. The first step would be to check on the pipes every few days.

Cold weather can become really dangerous in terms of temperature. The lower the temperature, the faster everything outside will freeze.

This is why it’s best to keep an eye on the pipes when the temperature starts to drop. Secondly, watch out for the color of the pipe. If the pipe has a glossy and ice-crystal look to it that it obviously didn’t have before the cold weather, then your pipe is most likely frozen.

What to Do

Please do not use any type of heating appliance like a blowtorch to remove the ice. Simply take a cloth dipped in hot, almost boiling, water and wrap it around the pipe. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then repeat that process till your pipes are somewhat unfrozen.

Although it may seem like a lot of work, it is important to keep your pipes from freezing! Frozen pipes become weak and damaged, which can really tamper heavily on your water and plumbing systems.
